GEUVADIS background

The Idea of GEUVADIS goes a few years back in time.

It was first presented by Xavier Estivill to the European Science Foundation during the 2008 Eurobioforum.

Two major facts triggered the concept of GEUVADIS:

- Recent years brought unforeseeable new findings on the high genomic variability between populations and  individuals.

- High-throughput next-generation DNA sequencing technologies allow investigators to sequence entire human genomes at an affordable price and within a short time frame

Using these state of the art sequencing technologies, the GEUVADIS consortium aims to establish the relationship between genomic architecture (genomic variability) and phenotype (health and disease).
